Pinjar

WOW. What a Movie. Made me think why didnt I see this one for so long. While I was watching the crap dished out by Bollywood week after week, here was something remarkable. A Brilliant Movie.

Where is this guy Chandraprakash Dwivedi after making such a nice movie. His direction is awesome. The costumes, the location, the feel of 1946-47 is perfect. Hard to find loopholes. The story by Amrita Pritam is wonderful and done full justice by Chandra in his screenplay and dialogues. The story revolves around few characters in the turbulent times before Independence when India was on the verge of getting divided in two separate countries. Urmila, at the center of the storm, plays one of the most brilliant characters in her life. She is really complemented well by an awesome Manoj Bajpayee. He deserved an award and so did she. To this day I believe he has not got his proper dues. One of the reasons was his bad selection of movies. But the guy is one of the most talented actors in the country. The other supporting cast pitches in well. Sanjay Suri is very believable, as always, in this Bhagwan Ram inspired character. Priyanshu and the girl from Tum Bin are also not bad.

It is nice to see some subtelty in the romance in our movies. The undercurrent between bajpayee and urmila is shown really well, before following with the nice climax.

One thing I felt went against it was the number of songs in the movie, although they were not bad. This raises question in my mind, Why isnt movies like Pinjar sent to Oscars from India. Why instead some crap is sent because of some dirty politics. I hope this stops soon.

All in all a brilliant movie and an emotional experiance. Chandra, Urmila, Manoj Where are you. Please make more movies. We need guys like you. Desparately

****(4 stars)
